Conservation Case Study
Showing the value of conserved spaces, through storytelling
The Challenge
Vermont Land Trust needed a cohesive story about their project at Catamount Community Forest—one that blended history, ecology, and their role as one of several partners in an important community project.
The Solution
I began with research, beginning with the Land Trust’s own excellent notes, as well as their land assessment.
I complemented those sources with some online sleuthing to learn more about the history of the land, its previous owners, and some of the unique flora and fauna that give Catamount its own special vibe.
I’m a somewhat frequent visitor of the space myself, and was fortunate to have been there in every season, for biking, skiing, and a number of community events, so I had a good sense for the more lyrical/place-based parts.
Results
The results are a readable, inviting, story that give a sense of the land, its features, its history, and the various partners and users of the land that shape its present-day meaning for our community.
Give it a read at their site, and then do yourself a favor and visit Catamount in person.
